The New England Patriots did not draft a wide receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft until the sixth round where they selected Kayshon Boutte 187th overall who was highly regarded and a 5 Star Recruit out of LSU in the 2020 recruiting class. The 20 year old Boutte was expected to be the next highly drafted wide receiver out of LSU, the 5-foot-11, 195-pound WR caught 83 passes for 1,244 yards with 14 touchdowns in his first 16 games as a Tiger but his sophomore season was cut short by an ankle injury. In his return to the field he caught only 48 passes for 538 yards with 2 touchdowns last season , an off the field incident caused issues with the team so he declared for the draft for his last season in college. He had a not so great performance at the NFL Scouting Combine and his pro day was also subpar, his scouting report was of a 4th round grade but when The New England Patriots selected him in the sixth round NFL Medias Ian Rapoport called it an "upside pick".

Boutte said after the draft "I am motivated more than ever probably." "Its a blessing." "Its a blessing that I made it to the NFL and get drafted by the Patriots, Its what every kid dreams of". "I would say that I want everyone to know that I am a hard worker and that I'm going to give 100 percent. I feel like I have been doubted a lot, I feel like its time for me to prove that I'm not that same person." Boutte has been compared to Stefon Diggs.
